.his baby girl’s newborn photoshoot in the studio was so sweet and one that was special for me to photograph. I actually had the chance to photograph her birth, which was the most surreal and incredible experience. Mom and Dad welcomed me into one of the most vulnerable experiences, and it’s been an honor to be able to capture this season for them.
We met at our daughter’s dance class and realized our children also go to the same preschool. Over the years we have gotten to know each other and coincidentally, Dad is a nearby photographer and has also taken our family photos.
Studio Newborn Session with Three Girls
Hazel is the youngest of three girls and to say her big sisters adored her would be an understatement. They were so sweet, gentle, and very attentive to her needs. I cannot wait to see how their friendship continues to grow over the year!
These girls really made my job as a newborn photographer pretty easy, but I do get asked how I go about doing sibling photos. The truth is, it varies for every session, depending on the temperament of the kids. Having 4 kids of my own has helped me navigate each session.
As hard as it is, the most important thing you can do is to let your kids be kids. Often times they are still adjusting to the new baby and overwhelmed by what’s going on. If we let them be kids, and let them have a moment to feel their feelings, it will work out well. Often times those in-between moments in the middle of the chaos tend to be everyone’s favorites anyway!
Other practical tips include bringing snacks for your toddlers that are easy to hide. Sometimes we even play a little game of hide ‘n seek with a cheerio or goldfish, depending on the age of your child. A small toy, music in the background, or even a little bribe to do something as a family after the newborn session can be helpful. And not to worry, I always have a few tricks that usually help too!
